WordPress 5.9 will come with Block Themeand I use a new interface called Twenty Twenty-Two.
Block Theme is a WordPress theme built entirely on blocks. Block Editor can also be used to edit all areas of the website: header, footer, sidebar, etc.
New feature Site Editor will bring the ability to customize the look using the block editor – Block Editor
The feature is still in Beta and only available on any theme that supports it.
New Blocks support more comprehensive site customization
As I introduced to you how to use the block editor – Gutenberg.
But with WordPress 5.9 there will be even more new blocks.
Some of the new blocks on this list include:
- Navigation
- Site Logo
- Header
- Footer
- Post Title
- Next post
- Previous post
- Post Comment
- Archive Title
You can use these blocks to create your own page layout or apply it on posts or pages.
Easier site-wide customization
In Block Theme there are also options available so you can change and apply it on the whole site.
Feature Styles This is very convenient for you to change some things on the website easily without much manipulation.
For example: font style, background color or layout.
In addition, you can also use it separately for each block and apply it on the interface.
Change how to use Navigation Menu
If you are using Block Theme, you will not be able to use the old way to edit the Menu section.
Instead you can add navigation menus using the new navigation block.
This new block makes it easy to add menu items and edit them with a live preview.
You can change the color, align left and right, and adjust the menu size and position.
Some improvements to Block Editor in WordPress 5.9
WordPress continues to feature its block editor in this version.
Here are some of the major edits that I will summarize for you.
Improved font customization
WordPress 5.9 improves the ability to customize the font for text blocks.
For paragraph blocks, you can change the font size, line height, letter capitalization, spacing between letters, and color.
Heading block now allows to choose H1, H2, H3 from the vertical drop-down menu.
Similarly you can also customize the style for your heading.
Show preview of URLs in the editor
Previously, when hovering over a link in the post editor, you only saw the URL.
WordPress 5.9 will display Preview URLs for links inside the post editor.
Gallery Block is better optimized
It used to be difficult to add links and styles to individual images inside a gallery block.
Now allows you to choose a style for each photo individually within the gallery block.
You can also easily link individual images or entire blocks.
Social Icons and Buttons are easier to customize
Before, editing each social in a block was a bit difficult.
Now this problem has been overcome by using a single toolbar for the whole block or for each icon individually.
Move blocks fast and easy
In list view – show block lists, you can now easily move blocks by dragging and dropping.
This allows you to easily search for or move the blocks you want to edit.

Performance Improvement in WordPress 5.9
Speed is increasingly an important factor to evaluate a website as well as improve user experience.
The WordPress development team is always trying to improve performance in each new update.
Lazy loading for images
Since WordPress 5.5 lazy load image has been added by default, however it adds this attribute to all images » increase the LCP index.
With WordPress 5.9, the images displayed on the screen when loading will not apply lazy loading anymore » improve your Core Web Vitals.
Better handling of block styles and CSS
Previously, WordPress loaded all the stylesheets for all the blocks in a single file. With WordPress 5.9, only the necessary styles are loaded.
Improved block editor
In the block editor, the insert block feature has also been improved, making block insertion smoother and searching faster.
Conclude
WordPress is still improving according to the roadmap and plan set out in advance.
That is to bring more comprehensive customization to users without having to use other third-party plugins.
In the near future, there will be many Block Themes released to bring more new things to WordPress.
